Bimini
Bound - Sharing the Power of Reading
BookSwap is currently collecting
books for Bimini Bound, a charity that brings much needed books into the
hands of school children in Bimini, the westernmost island in the Bahamas. Books in demand are:
For students of all ages
(pre-school - grade 12)
Gently used or new (intact
covers, binding not broken)
Fiction
and non-fiction
Recently
published books (textbooks and non-fiction titles should contain current,
useful content)
Over
the years, Bimini has experienced their share of hardships including
prohibition, hurricanes and illegal drug trafficking.Bimini
Bound is a volunteer effort out of Whitby,
Ontario, working in partnership with the Royal Bahamas Police
to encourage the youth of Bimini to stay
in school.
Research
shows that students who read, do better in school. Traditionally
though, boys do not like to read, especially if they cannot relate to the
material. Books that offer a male protagonist, humour or
adventure are therefore great choices for them. BookSwap recommends the following
additions to your classroom or school library that will get even the most reluctant boy readers excited about
books!
