November 2009

Dear School Teachers and Curriculum Leaders,

Welcome to another edition of the BookSwap Bargain Board Newsletter.  This month we have a lot to offer including our fun Monthly Contest, Teacher Resource Specials, and Textbooks on Clearance.  Plus, the Holiday Season is fast approaching so be sure to check out our number of gift ideas!

National Child's Day - November 20th

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.  Canada remembers our commitment by celebrating National Child's Day, November 20th. The special day reminds us that children have the right to:

  • A voice in all matters that affect them

  • Be respected without discrimination

  • Be protected from harm

  • Basic needs such as food and shelter, standard of living, and health

  • The opportunity to reach their full potential

  • Decisions made in their best interests

There are many ways everybody can celebrate this important occasion, and we hope you will participate.  Suggestions include:

  • Wearing a royal blue ribbon in support of the rights of a child

  • Reflecting on the rights of children

  • Talking with your students about the meaning of this day

  • Finding out how other countries celebrate National Child's Day

  • Donating time and money to a children's charity

  • Asking a child for advice

  • Encouraging your students to show their appreciation to another young person
